On November 20, 2024, Bright Future organized an after-action review workshop in Mekelle, Axum Hotel to evaluate its project on Empowering Communities for Inclusive Living, funded by USAID/OTI-ESP. The workshop gathered 29 participants (19 men and 10 women), including 6 persons with disabilities, representing government institutions, local NGOs, disability associations, and sub-city administrations from Mekelle and Axum.

The workshop, inaugurated by Mr. Tsehayberki Haile, CEO of Bright Future, served as a platform to reflect on project processes, outcomes, challenges, and lessons learned. Stakeholders deliberated on ways to mainstream the inclusion and empowerment of vulnerable groups into the mainstream service provision and programming by state and non-state actors.

Dynamic group discussions addressed the concept of disability, dimensions of inclusion, and practical approaches across sectors. Representatives of vulnerable groups led passionate and emotional dialogues, advocating strongly for the rights of their members to be treated on equal basis with others. Despite intense debates, the discussions underscored participants’ shared commitment to fostering a more inclusive society.

The workshop concluded with actionable recommendations, paving the way for stronger strategies to integrate persons with the needs of vulnerable groups into the mainstream services and empower vulnerable communities in Tigray.
